Final Snowfall |
Shallow puddles on the roadway yield up wonderful images, more painterly than photographic with the textures of the roadbed transformed into textures in the sky. It is the way of things that, in a move toward greater durability, the oil-and-gravel country road that afforded me these images has just been covered with asphalt and I fear these images will now be harder to find. |

ReflectionsSometimes to see with a new perspective it is necessary to turn the world upside down. This is literally what is done when photographing reflections. The camera image is rotated 180 degrees to permit the viewer to see into this elusive world. With one exception, all of these reflections were photographed in puddles and ponds and roadside ditches. The exception is a self-portrait photographed in a window at 6 AM. Because water based reflections are endlessly in motion they hold a wealth of imagery. When the camera freezes this activity we see in the stillness the impressionist hand of God.
